Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies legislation, documentation, policies and procedures for managing rig operations

implements the requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient management of rig operations including:

identifying, addressing and reporting potential hazards and risks

controlling identified hazards

implementing emergency response plan and procedures

identifying, addressing and reporting environmental issues

checking all contractor-supplied equipment

works effectively with others to coordinate activities and resolve issues for rig operation to meet all required outcomes including:

preparing for and organising work activities to meet all task requirements

communicating clearly and concisely with others to receive and clarify work instructions

using a range of communication techniques and aids to advise others of work activity and exclusion zones

using written and verbal communications to convey all activities and outcomes for rig operations to others in a clear and concise manner

demonstrates completion of the management of rig operations that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

establishing camp location, infrastructure

identifying issues, exploring options to resolve issue, considering options and implementing best options that resolves issues with rig operations

organising supplies and expendable requirements to maintain the life of the planned work activity

solving logistical problems to maintain access to supplies and resources for rig operations and employee welfare

establishing and reporting on new lease arrangements


Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge of the following in applying manage rig operations:

organisation and site requirements and procedures for:

set up for rig operations (including planning, programming and preparing)

identification and management of risks

environmental issues

site preparation and organisation

work health and safety

resource and supply requirements

camp planning and set-up carrying out rig loading

load spotting

rig up and shut down

lease arrangements and requirements
